The Karachi administration has decided to tighten enforcement against the sale of vapes, tobacco products, and drugs near government colleges ahead of the new academic year.
The Directorate of College Education Karachi has written to deputy commissioners of all districts, directing them to ensure strict monitoring of shops, cafes, and other outlets located within a 50-meter radius of government colleges.
According to the directive, authorities have been instructed to take action against the sale of vapes, nicotine products, tobacco, and other prohibited substances around educational institutions.
Assistant commissioners and other field officers have also been asked to conduct regular inspections of shops and commercial outlets to ensure compliance.
The move comes ahead of the start of the new academic session on August 3, when thousands of first-year and second-year students are expected to return to colleges across the city.
In addition to action outside campuses, college principals have been directed to strictly enforce bans on smoking, vaping, and drug use within college premises. They have also been instructed to immediately report any suspicious or illegal activities to the relevant authorities.
Officials said the initiative aims to create a safer educational environment and protect students of Grades 11 and 12 from drug abuse and nicotine addiction.
