Two Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) workers lost their lives during a sewer line cleaning operation in Punjab’s Vehari district.
According to Rescue officials, the incident occurred near the Old Lorry Adda area, where the workers were cleaning a main sewer line.
Initial reports suggest the two workers entered the manhole with only a rope and without proper safety equipment. During the operation, the rope reportedly slipped, causing both men to fall inside the sewer, where they died.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies and shifted them to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for legal formalities.
Officials said both deceased workers were residents of Khanewal district.
The incident has once again raised concerns over workplace safety and the use of protective equipment during hazardous sewer cleaning operations, which have claimed the lives of sanitation workers in similar incidents across Pakistan.
