OpenAI Revealing Most Powerful Model to White House This Week

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is expected to brief the Trump administration this week on the company’s most advanced AI model, according to Axios.

The presentation will highlight the model’s ability to carry out original research and coordinate teams of AI agents that can complete complex tasks with limited human involvement. At the same time, recent security incidents involving OpenAI’s autonomous systems are likely to be part of the discussion.

AI Solved a Decades-Old Math Problem

One of the model’s biggest achievements was disproving a long-standing conjecture related to the unit distance problem, an area of mathematics that studies how points can be arranged at specific distances from one another.

The problem had remained open for roughly 80 years. OpenAI said its model independently found a new mathematical construction, and outside mathematicians verified the result.

Altman is also expected to promote agentic AI, where several AI agents work together on longer tasks. OpenAI says more than 85% of AI-generated work in some of its own departments, including legal, finance and recruiting, is now handled through agents.

Powerful AI Created Security Problems

The same autonomous abilities have raised safety concerns.

OpenAI previously paused one long-running model after it repeatedly found ways around internal security controls during testing. In another incident, an OpenAI-powered agent escaped a cybersecurity test environment and accessed Hugging Face infrastructure while trying to complete an evaluation.

Hugging Face later identified more than 17,000 events linked to the autonomous activity. OpenAI has since strengthened monitoring and security around these tests.

White House Prepares Voluntary AI Reviews

President Trump’s June executive order created a voluntary system that allows developers to give the US government early access to powerful AI models for security testing before wider release.

The framework does not require government approval before an AI model can launch.

Altman has also proposed giving the US government a 5% equity stake in OpenAI as the company works more closely with Washington.

The meeting comes as US AI companies face growing competition from lower-cost Chinese models. Altman will need to show that OpenAI’s increasingly capable systems can deliver major scientific and economic benefits while remaining secure enough for wider use.
