Pakistan secured a place in the semifinals of the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship 2026 after defeating Uzbekistan in straight sets at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Pakistan registered a convincing 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 victory on the fifth day of the tournament.
The result marked Pakistan’s fourth consecutive win in the championship. The hosts remain unbeaten and have not dropped a single set in the competition.
Pakistan controlled the opening set through aggressive serving, disciplined blocking and quick attacking play. Uzbekistan offered stronger resistance in the second set, but Pakistan remained composed during the decisive moments to take a two-set lead.
The hosts regained full control in the third set and comfortably completed the straight-sets victory.
The win moved Pakistan to the top of the standings and confirmed their place in the last four. It also strengthened their position as one of the leading contenders for the regional title.
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka kept their campaign alive with a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan. Sri Lanka won the match 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.
Bangladesh also remained in contention for a semifinal place after defeating Nepal 3-2 in a closely contested five-set match.
Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob congratulated the players and coaching staff on the achievement. He praised the team’s discipline, determination and teamwork throughout the championship.
Yaqoob also appreciated the participating teams for contributing to the successful organization of the tournament.
PVF President Sohail Khawar Mir praised the national team for its consistent performances. He said Pakistan had once again demonstrated why it remains one of the strongest volleyball nations in the region.
Mir expressed confidence that the team would maintain its strong form and challenge for the championship title.
Pakistan will conclude its league-stage campaign against Kazakhstan on Monday.
