Sindh Forms Committee to Probe HIV Outbreak at Another Hospital in Karachi

The Sindh government has formed a five-member committee after HIV screening near a SESSI-run hospital in Landhi, Karachi, detected 10 positive cases.

Around 2,000 people have been screened so far. The committee has been given seven days to confirm the number of cases and examine whether any of them are linked.

The inquiry team will review laboratory reports, injection practices, the use of disposable syringes and needles, and infection-control measures at the hospital.

It will also check the availability of medicines and medical supplies, along with the hospital’s system for handling biomedical waste.

The committee has been asked to collect details of affected patients, including children and their parents where relevant, and identify any individual or institutional negligence.

Officials have not yet confirmed the source of the infections. The final report will include findings, recommendations, and responsibility for any failures discovered during the investigation.
