Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said that increasing Pakistan’s defense budget is unavoidable given the prevailing regional and national security situation.
Speaking to a private news channel, he said Pakistan is not only surviving in a challenging environment but is doing so with dignity and resilience which requires adequate allocation for defense expenditures.
He said defense spending must be adjusted in line with current realities and the country must maintain its security preparedness under difficult regional conditions.
Commenting on the 18th Constitutional Amendment, he called it a positive reform that has been widely appreciated as it finally allowed the transfer of powers to the provinces.
He added that with increased authority comes responsibility, particularly in the social sector, which he said falls under provincial jurisdiction.
Sanaullah urged provinces to take greater responsibility for managing social sector obligations.
