One of the world’s largest container ships, MSC Erica, has arrived at Karachi Port, marking another major call by a mega container vessel at Pakistan’s busiest seaport.
According to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the vessel measures 398.5 meters in length and 59 meters in width, placing it among the world’s largest container ships.
KPT said more than 3,000 containers are expected to be handled during the ship’s stay at Karachi Port before it departs for China after completing cargo operations.
Port officials said the arrival of the mega vessel highlights Karachi Port’s capability to accommodate some of the world’s largest container ships and handle high volume cargo operations efficiently.
MSC Erica is operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), one of the world’s largest container shipping lines. Delivered in 2016, the vessel has a maximum carrying capacity of around 19,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), placing it among the world’s largest container ships of its class.
