Lahore has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities, despite repeated efforts by the Punjab government to tackle smog and improve air quality.
According to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) data by IQAir, Lahore recorded a hazardous AQI of 349, making it the most polluted city on Earth.
The city’s air quality has fallen into the “Very Unhealthy” category, posing serious health risks for millions of residents.
Delhi, India followed with an AQI of 283, while Tashkent, Uzbekistan ranked third at 192.
Other South Asian cities such as Karachi (165), Kolkata (163), and Dhaka (158) also featured among the top ten most polluted cities globally.
Despite frequent smog alerts and temporary restrictions on industrial activity, Lahore continues to choke under layers of dust, vehicle emissions, and crop residue burning.
The Punjab government has pledged to intensify its anti-smog drive, but progress remains slow. With winter approaching, the city’s air quality is expected to deteriorate further unless immediate and sustained measures are taken.
