Punjab Police has finalized a strict security plan for New Year’s Eve and warned that anyone violating the law will face action.
According to officials, the security plan aims to ensure law and order during New Year’s night across Punjab.
Inspector General Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar has ordered enhanced security measures in Lahore and all other districts of the province.
A police spokesperson said more than 25,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duties across Punjab on New Year’s Eve. In Lahore alone, over 5,000 officers and personnel will be deployed at key locations.
Police will monitor activities across Punjab, including Lahore, through CCTV cameras. The IG directed police to remain on high alert and keep a close watch on any anti-state elements.
Dr Usman Anwar made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for one wheeling, aerial firing, and hooliganism on New Year’s night. He said miscreants involved in harassing women will be detained and sent to lockups.
Authorities have also issued an alert for severe cold, rain and snowfall, which may affect movement and security arrangements in some areas.
The IG Punjab instructed officials to ensure coordinated traffic management on New Year’s night. He also ordered Dolphin Squad, PERA, Elite Force and Highway Patrol teams to increase patrolling on roads and main highways.
