Another day of playing ‘pin the blame on women’, as Aamir Liaquat is now blaming ‘ungrateful independent women’ for rising divorce rates.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Aamir Liaquat Hussain tweeted his unsolicited ‘insight’ into the reason behind the rising rate of ‘khula’, or divorce initiated by women. Naturally, much like all his controversial opinions, this too had the television show host making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The Ramzan show host alleged that;
“In one year, 100,000 women approached the courts for khula and more than ten thousand khula degrees were issued!”

Aamir Liaquat then went on to certain traits that are to be blamed;
“Independence, disobedience, ungratefulness, doubt, advice from friends and mothers, impoliteness and the false hopes created by media lead to khula, … but this creates an otherworldly vacuum, which is called remorse.”
A man with turbulent marriages, blaming the ‘modern women’ for the rise in the number of divorces had people calling him out.
Second paragraph is actually diagnostic evidence of our country's problem.
1) over generalizations
2) only cautious about other's actions
3) self judgements
4) overly confident about the personal judgments https://t.co/NPDSdKspiB— Rabeea రబియా (@RabeeaMumtaz) January 17, 2022

Others asked why the Aalim Online host even has an opinion with something that’s none of his concern.
@AamirLiaquat You do not have to worry on their behalf. They have their own life and their own brain – they suffer or enjoy their own decisions. You have no business to comment on their life and their decision on their lives. https://t.co/kNspHqcZnj

Many Netizens even pointed out the actual factors causing the rise in divorce, such as awareness of women’s safety.
It is better to get a khula than live with a mean abusing husband and suffer till you die. https://t.co/zDgXvu5GRj

Seriously? And you want women to live with pathetic men like you all their life? Tut tut… https://t.co/P5XB94xsdW

Many even lauded women for putting their rights and well-being first.
More power to all of these women. Being married is not the guarantee to Jannat. #haramitalksharami https://t.co/WR5KL01jSm
