In a surprising turn of events, fitness trainer and Aamir Khan’s damad, Nupur Shikare became the butt of the joke at his own wedding, marrying with Bollywood icon’s daughter, Ira Khan, in a banyan and nikkar (tank top and gym shorts).
The couple had a private ceremony at the Taj Lands End in Mumbai. However, it wasn’t the union itself that took the internet by storm; it was Nupur’s choice of attire – a black tank top and white gym shorts – that sparked a wave of humorous reactions online.
Nupur, known for his fitness expertise, made a unique entrance by jogging approximately eight kilometers to the wedding venue, accompanied by his groomsmen or “gym bros.”
The video of him signing the Nikah papers in his unconventional attire while Ira dazzled in a glamorous ensemble quickly went viral, with netizens flooding social media platforms with humorous comments and memes.
Social media users couldn’t resist cracking jokes about the groom’s casual attire. Comments such as “Gym se seedha mandap par aa gaye jiju” and “Bro was so excited to get married that he forgot to wear sherwani 😂😂” flooded the internet.
While some criticized Nupur’s choice, others praised him as a trendsetter, suggesting that casual wear could be an option for those who can’t afford expensive wedding attire.
Despite the initial online frenzy, Nupur eventually donned a blue bandhgala suit for the official ceremony. The couple opted for an intimate registration surrounded by close friends and family, with Aamir Khan’s ex-wife, Kiran Rao, joining the celebration. Aamir, donned in a cream-colored sherwani, radiated paternal pride, posing with the family, including his sons Junaid Khan and Azad.
The official registration occurred on Wednesday, with reports indicating a grand wedding in Udaipur on January 5, followed by a lavish Mumbai reception. The pre-wedding celebrations included a mehndi function hosted by Salman Khan at his residence.
Speaking about the groom, Aamir Khan expressed happiness over Ira’s choice, stating,
The boy she [Ira] has chosen for herself, his pet name is Popeye…he [Nupur] stood by her side and supported her. He has supported her emotionally. I am happy that she has selected him.
Ira and Nupur got engaged in November 2022, with Nupur proposing to Ira in Italy. Nupur, a well-known celebrity fitness trainer, has been a constant support for Ira, particularly during her struggles with depression.
