APS Survivor Shares Tea With Prince William [Pictures]

Ahmed Nawaz has also received the Diana Awards earlier this year.

APS attack survivor Ahmad Nawaz has received the Legacy Award 2019 for the Diana Award in the United Kingdom.

Nawaz, who received treatment in the UK after being badly injured in the deadly attack, became the first Pakistani to receive the Princess Diana Award for his anti-radicalization campaign.

Before the award ceremony, Ahmed attended a high-tea hosted by Prince William at Kensington Palace. Ahmed shared pictures of the event on his Twitter handle.

“I’m extremely honored to be awarded ‘The Legacy award 2019’ for my global campaign.
It was an absolute pleasure to be invited by HRH Prince Williams to @KensingtonRoyal for tea and share my work for young people with him. He told me that he loved his recent visit to Pakistan,” he captioned the tweet.

A survivor who lived to tell the tale

Ahmed, who recently turned 18, was only 14 years old when TTP terrorists attacked the Army Public School in Peshawar in December 2014. Nawaz was one of the few survivors of the massacre that martyred over 140 students, teachers, and staffers. He managed to save his life by hiding himself under the dead bodies and pretending to be dead.

He had multiple injuries on his arms and was shifted to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. Ahmed also lost his brother in the deadly attack.

According to the Kensington Palace, the 2019 Legacy Awards from the Diana Awards is given to “20 outstanding young leaders, visionaries and role models from across the world, aged 12-25 who have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilize new generations to serve their communities.”

The awards are distributed every two years and only those who have previously received Diana Awards are eligible for Legacy Awards.

This years’ 20 lucky winners are from Pakistan, Canada, UK, Tanzania, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, and India.
