After almost 9 years, Pakistani television actress Atiqa Odho has been acquitted from the liquor recovery case at a court in Rawalpindi. The case was registered against her when she was allegedly traveling with 2 bottles of liquor at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA).

The Humsafar actress was checking in for Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) Karachi-bound flight PK-301 when 2 bottles of foreign liquor were allegedly found in her bag. The incident took place on June 4, 2011.

However, Civil Judge Yasir Chaudhry recently declared that there wasn’t enough evidence against the actress. At the time of the incident, she was the secretary of information for Pervez Musharraf’s APML.

The case was registered under Section 3/4 of the Prohibition Order of 1979, and Atiqa’s statements were recorded under Section 161 of the Court of Criminal Procedure (CRPC).

It is important to note here that this was one of the oldest cases in the Rawalpindi Civil Court. There had been 174 hearings and about 12 judges have been changed during the trial.

Although Atiqa Odho was granted immunity from appearing before the court after 6 months, she is relieved that this case can finally be put behind her.
