One of the things that Pakistanis can truly be proud of is their music, especially the songs which were composed in the 1990s and early 2000s. That was quite an era with some of the best rock and pop bands the country had to offer.
We also know that Bollywood has a habit of copying our songs. Mostly, they never had to even ask for permission while doing so, but now – thanks to YouTube’s strict rules, they can’t get away with it anymore.
Turns out, one of the most iconic songs from 1997 has been sold to neighboring India. And that’s Junoon’s Sayonee, which was THE anthem for Pakistan.
As you can expect, Pakistanis decide to retaliate by doing what they do best; trolling Indians.
Of Junoon and Sayonee
Junoon was a famous 90s band that has given us some classic hits like Jazba-e-Junoon, Bulleya, and Sayonee. The latter was recently recreated by Arjit Singh for an upcoming Bollywood film of the same name – Sayonee.
Junoon the band had renowned musicians like Salman Ahmed, Ali Azmat, and Nusrat Hussain. They rose to fame around the 1990s, when they also released Pakistan’s first compilation album, Kashmakash.
If you don’t remember their classic hit Sayonee, don’t worry! We have got you covered:
But yesterday, this iconic song popped up on our feeds again, and for a truly bizarre reason.
You see, it has now been recreated by Bollywood, and while it doesn’t sound bad, people have strong opinions!
Before we get into the reactions, let’s hear the Bollywood version of Sayonee first:
The song has been brought to you by Indian record label T-Series. In their YouTube video, it has credited Salman Ahmad, and Junoon band. This was something unthinkable of not too long ago.
As it turns out, Salman did give them permission to use his song but people are still finding it very uncool. T-Series also thanked Samina Ahmed for using the song:
The Reactions
Here’s what Pakistanis are tweeting out in response to this news:
In case anyone don't know this is a very famous pakistani song sung by @RealAliAzmat who was in "Junoon band" and @TSeries just ruined the song. Disgusting #Sayonee https://t.co/czXjQMv53w

Make your own music @TSeries – this is the anthem of our youth. You will not own this one. @sufisal did you sell this song to them? https://t.co/ygj8OPmQ1a

Honestly, I'll personally bully you into deleting this. Pewdiepie was nothing.

Even some Indians agree with Pakistanis:
Dear Pakistanis, even we Indians are not liking this. We actually find this garbage and T-Series has been well known to turn old master pieces into garbage. Such a garbage that it doesn't even deserve a dustbin 🤦♂️

This got me picturing the grainy music video for "sayonee" that I was playing constantly on MTV (or was it [V] channel) as a kid growing up in Bombay/Mumbai.
