Ms. Marvel and Representation

Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, and writer G. Willow Wilson created a Pakistani-American Muslim female superhero because till then there had not been one. In attempts to generate a superhero, they wish they could relate to growing up with they created Kamala Khan.

So how well did Disney plus continue with that essence of representation? It did cast many Indian actors as Pakistanis. While this may seem minor, South Asians have voiced time and time again how ‘not all brown people are the same’. Even within the same country, there are distinct and diverse ethnic groups.

The protagonist of the show is played by a Pakistani-Canadian There are also other Pakistani actors in the cast such as Saagar Shaikh, Nimra Bucha, Mehwish Hayat, Fawad Khan, Vardah Aziz, and Samina Ahmad.

Additionally, Pakistani-American writer Bisha K. Ali and director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy are also some minds behind the web series.
