Pakistani film and TV actress, Armeena Khan, has a massive fan following in the country. However, it has been a long time since we saw the Janaan actress in any show or movie.
The release of Ertugrul in Pakistan sparked a huge debate regarding the Pakistani entertainment industry. Many enthusiasts, including some actors, have spoken openly about the repetitive storylines and stereotypical characters that seem to populate most Pakistani shows.
The main theme of many shows revolving around love-triangles, an aggressive mother-in-law and a helpless main character, has the audience questioning the producers’ creative abilities.
Since her debut in Pakistan, we’ve seen Armeena in many different shows and movies. The Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi star has been nominated for many different awards in her career.
All this begs the question. Did she leave the industry?
Armeena Khan responds
In a comment on her Instagram account, one fan asked her why we haven’t seen her in any recent project:
Why aren’t you appearing in TV shows these days? In fact, we haven’t seen you in dramas for a long time now.
We love you and we want to see you in dramas.
Answering the fan’s question, the Bin Roye star gave an elaborate explanation. She said:
This is an interesting question, so I will try to give a detailed answer.
People work for two reasons:
- Because they need financial stability (thankfully, that wasn’t the case for me),
- Because they have a passion or an incentive.
She added that she worked in the media industry for the second reason. But now, the 33-year-old said she no longer has the passion to work because of the scripts she was being offered.
I used to get angry at the kind of projects that were coming my way. Why would you work for something that is killing your passion?
The Sherdil actress believes it’s not the actors’ or audience’s fault. It is the system that is crooked. Also stressing on the point that anywhere else, a spot boy is as respected as the producers, which is not the case in Pakistan.
She hopes to get a decent project one day, which is when she plans to return to the Pakistani drama industry. Till then her plan is to entertain Pakistani fans from Canada.
