Yet another sexual crime against women has surfaced in Lahore. A mother and her 15-year-old daughter were gang-raped.
The rapist, a rickshaw driver is an already convicted rapist. He has a criminal record of raping women in past but he keeps getting out on bail.
According to Independent Urdu, the mother and daughter had been traveling from Vehari to Lahore. Rather than taking them to their destination, the rickshaw driver and his accomplice gang-raped the women.
Two of the accused, Omar Farooq and Mansab Ali, were arrested in Lahore on Sunday night.
The accused left the rickshaw on the spot and fled after the incident. The police at the Chong police station then registered an FIR on the complaint of the victims.
Details of The Gang-Rape
According to the FIR, the 35-year-old victim is a resident of tehsil Melsi, district Vehari. She and her daughter got on the bus at 3 pm on Sunday and got off at Thokar Bypass around 10 pm.
From there they took a rickshaw to her sister’s house in Saddar Cantt, Lahore. The rickshaw driver was accompanied by another man who, instead of taking the mother and daughter to their destination took them on a dark road on LDAÂ Avenue, H1 block, and raped them.
The victim cried out but the accused kept her mouth shut. The woman said that at the same time, a car stopped a short distance away. Seeing the light of the car, they made more noise, and the accused panicked left the rickshaw and fled.
The woman said the accused also took her mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash.
Hearing their cries, a person from the area called 15, and local police arrived on the scene.
The woman says she can identify the suspects when they come forward.
The Investigation
Inspector General (IG) Punjab said serious provisions including gang rape and terrorism have been added against the accused.
The team from Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory collected evidence from the crime scene. Meanwhile, the gang-raped women have also been given medical treatment.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, Ghulam Mehmood Dogar told a press conference on Monday that both rapists have criminal records and were involved in several rape cases. He said that accused Omar Farooq is a habitual criminal.
According to CCPO Lahore’s spokesperson, Rana Arif, the accused has been jailed in rape cases in 2020 and 2021 and was released on bail both times.
