Nadeem Baig: London Nahi Jaunga Not a Sequel

Nadeem Baig - London Nahi Jaunga

As Humayoun Saeed is set to grace the silver screen again, there is much hype around the release of his upcoming film London Nahi Jaunga.

London Nahi Jaunga cast the actor with Mehwish Hayat again. Additionally, the film cast Kubra Khan, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, and Vasay Chaudhry in supporting roles.

Directed by Nadeem Baig, this concoction of talent might as well be a ‘winning formula’ for a successful film.

Nadeem Baig has churned out hits on the small and silver screen with Humayun Saeed from the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani franchise to the drama serial Dil Lagi.

However, we will not see the leading man in the recurring role of Fawad Khagga, or see Mehwish Hayat reclaim her role as Amal Dastoor. As per the director, this movie is not a sequel to Punjab Nahi Jaungi.

In an interview with Express Tribune, the filmmaker offered more insights on how this film follows a new story altogether. His reasons for doing so? He just felt the story didn’t have the potential to be carried on.

“This falls under the same genre but it’s a different story, … It was a conscious decision to not do a sequel this time around but work on a new script, …You see, some stories have that potential that you can take it forward such as Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. But with London Nahi Jaunga, I felt making it a sequel would result in baggage, instead of an advantage.”

So how did this story come to life? It started as a playful joke as per Humayun Saeed.

“You know how the film actually happened? We were in London for the celebration of our then hit film Punjab Nahi Jaungi. It was then when someone suggested that why don’t you work on a film in London? So, I took a jibe that I’d work on a film titled, London Nahi Jaunga. I was only half-kidding but the thought just got buried somewhere in my mind. I discussed the same with Khalilur Rehman Qamar. He agreed it was a good idea. That’s when he started working on the script.”
