Pakistani Celebrities Lash Back After Criticism of HUM Awards Show in Canada

After severe backlash from netizens for being ‘hypocrites’, Nadia Hussain, Ushna Shah, and Ahmed Ali Butt speak up for their flood relief efforts

After Pakistan’s catastrophic monsoon rains, almost half of the country has been severely devastated, with people and animals left stranded without food and shelter. Various local and international organizations are working day and night in rescue and aid operations. Besides, many celebrities from all around the world have been showing their concern for Pakistan and have even visited the country to help with relief operations. Meanwhile, many of our celebrities have flown to Canada to attend the HUM Awards show.

HUM TV is under fire by outraged netizens for this hypocrisy and the public is calling for a boycott of the artistes and organizers for being selfish and self-absorbed while the world has its eye on Pakistan. HUM’s telethon to raise funds for the flood victims in Mississauga, Canada this week to quickly make amends was also seen as an insincere effort to deflect the criticism.

Following this, the channel posted a statement on social media to save face. It detailed that all the proceeds from the gala night and auctioned items will be donated to flood relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Actors such as Ahmed Ali Butt, Nadia Hussain, and Ushna Shah also recently came forward to stand up for the efforts of their fraternity.

Ahmed Ali Butt even took a jab at the politician Sharmila Faruqui for her ‘needless criticism’. He taunted her party’s work in Karachi, which, he claimed, had led to the horrific situation.
