Rishi Kapoor Asks Pakistan to Turn His Ancestral Home into a Museum

That is certainly doable, we think.

Rishi Kapoor wants his Peshawar home to be turned into a museum and the Pakistani government is on board.

Like many people across the border, even the famed Kapoor family can trace their roots back to Pakistan.

Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor requested that his ancestral home in Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Peshawar be turned into a museum or an institution.

As part of Indian law, people that migrated from India to Pakistan forfeited their properties in the country and their future generations could not claim those assets. Due to that very reason Ruttie Jinnah’s children do not have ownership of the Jinnah House in India. Over the years political campaigns have called for the demolition of the property.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi revealed that all this happened via a phone call.

“There was a call from Rishi Kapoor. He requested that his family’s home in Peshawar should be made into a museum or some sort of institution. We have accepted his request,”

The phone call was received by the Federal Minister of Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi. The minister revealed that both the federal and provincial governments were looking into the request.

“The Federal and Provincial governments are working on  transforming the house into a museum soon,”

A Wish to Visit Pakistan

Last year, the 65 years old Bollywood star tweeted out that he would wish to see Pakistan before he dies.

The Kapoor Haveli in Peshawar was owned by the late Pritviraj Kapoor. The legendary actor Raj Kapoor was born in that house but none of his children including Rishi Kapoor have ever seen or visited the residence.

The Kapoor family moved to Mumbai before the partition of the sub-continent and have been living there ever since.
