Senate Panel Clears Zindagi Tamasha For Release Post-COVID

The saga comes to an end.

Zindagi Tamasha

The Senate Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday approved the long-awaited release of Zindagi Tamasha.

Dismissing the objections raised against it, PPP Senator and committee chairperson Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, said in a tweet that they ‘found nothing wrong’ with the film.

“Censor board has our go ahead to release post Covid. Detail reasoning to follow later.” he added.

Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial was scheduled to release on January 24. However, the threats of protests by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan, led to a delayed screening.

According to the political party, Zindagi Tamasha was ‘blasphemous.’ The religious party called for protests in the capital. The government then decided to send the movie to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for review even after it was cleared by censor boards twice.

Later, in March, the Senate Penal for Human Rights took the matter in its hands and barred the CII from reviewing the film.

“If we find something objectionable [in the film], we will forward it to the CII.”

Referring to TLP’s threats and objections over the movie, Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar also said that they will not come under pressure from any political party.

“Parliament will exercise its authority … We should not come under pressure of those parties who held Islamabad hostage twice.”
