After the fiasco at the Oscars, Will Smith has been deeply hurt due to his emotional and out-of-line slap to Chris Rock. The comedian cracked a joke at Jada referring to her as “G.I. Jane” because of her shaved head. Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia, which is why she shaved her head and was not amused by the joke. However, her husband, Will Smith, got emotional and confronted Chris Rock live on stage. The Bad Boys star went on the stage to slap Chris as everyone gasped.
Later, Smith had apologized for his incautious move but it hurt him so deeply that the guilt took him on a spiritual journey to India to cleanse his sins and heal from them. Recently, Will Smith was spotted at the Mumbai airport. Source has it that he is visiting Guru, Sadhguru, in India. This marks the actor’s first public appearance since the Oscars slap controversy.
The King Richard winner plans on practicing yoga and meditation.
Earlier, the Men in Black star resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences after the Oscars controversy, and he was subsequently banned by the Academy from attending its events for the next 10 years.
Will described his behavior at the Oscars as “shocking, painful, and inexcusable”. He said
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,”
Jada however, stated regarding the incident that
“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time call.”
We hope Will finds what he is looking for in India. It’s sad to see an otherwise amazing career take such a sad and shocking turn.
