ISLAMABAD: Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) is set to receive better protection as two officials of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) have been given magisterial powers.
As per the details, the officials, director Dr. Tariq Mehmood Bangash and Assistant Director Ayesha Shahzad will be able to send violators of park rules to jail and impose fines.
Spread across 12,605 hectares, the park is a significant factor in the beauty of the capital city, while the IWMB had no authority to take action against park rule-breakers.
The move has been welcomed by the IWMB, who have been demanding magisterial powers for a long time.
As per the details, this will enable officials to take independent action against violations within the national park area.
The move is expected to deter actions such as those resulting in fire incidents in the hills, which are an annual occurrence.
