‘2,104 Houses and Flats Upgraded and Renovated in Islamabad’

ISLAMABAD: The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Ministry of Housing and Works has upgraded and renovated 2,104 houses and flats across various sectors in Islamabad in the last five years.

According to an official in the ministry, the PWD carried out electrical and mechanical works in 1,119 houses and flats, while civil works were executed on around 985 flats of different categories.

The Ministry owns 5,253 houses and flats in categories I to V located in various sectors of the federal capital.

However, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is responsible for the maintenance and renovation of the Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, and no funds were spent by the Ministry on its renovation.

The official further stated that the Finance Division had already reduced the budget while making allocations.

Therefore, no funds had been surrendered to the Finance Division, and all the allocated funds during 2021-22 in relevant heads were utilized by the general section.

Moreover, the PWD has started sending notices to the allottees of government accommodation in Sector I-9/4 regarding payment of electric meter bills for water motors installed at residential blocks.

The Finance Division has allocated funds for the payment of utilities in the relevant heads of accounts of the users. Hence, the users should pay utility bills for residential accommodation, including hostels, rest houses, and judicial residences.
