Senate Committee Discusses Illegal Construction in Govt Residences

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works recently held a meeting to discuss the issue of illegal construction and encroachment in government residences.

During the meeting, the committee was informed that no construction in government residences could be carried out without prior approval from the relevant ministry.

According to the details, a committee has been established in the Estate office to survey residences and issue notices to the allottees involved in illegal construction.

The Senate committee was also briefed about the budgetary proposals relating to Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the financial year 2023-24, and the estimated cost of the 413 projects selected for the year 2023-24 is around Rs 344,767.271 million.

Furthermore, the committee directed the ministry to provide a list of allottees to whom notices had been issued, and recommended that the departments of alleged allottees take stern action against them under the efficiency and discipline rules.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan, also questioned the ministry regarding the appointments made by FGEHA during the last 2 years.

Besides, Senator Saifullah Abro questioned the reduction in funds allocation for the development schemes in Larkana, Sukkur, and Shaeed Benazeerabad Division.

Officials explained that the decrease in funds allocation was due to the government curtailing the PSDP budget greatly.

The meeting was attended by officials from the relevant departments, including the Federal Minister for Housing and Works Maulana Abdul Wasay, and the Secretary for Ministry of Housing and Works Iftikhar Ali Shallwani.
