RAWALPINDI: The authorities in Rawalpindi have been directed to take practical steps to eliminate both permanent and temporary encroachments from city roads to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The sources stated that the Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division and the Regional Police Officer (RPO) recently chaired a meeting to review arrangements being taken to address the encroachment problem.
The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, including the Deputy Commissioner and the City Police Officer, as well as business community representatives.
Furthermore, the commissioner emphasized the need for the cooperation of traders and residents in removing encroachments, as well as the importance of taking solid and practical steps to achieve the target of an anti-encroachment drive.
In the first phase, he announced, the encroachments will be removed from several areas, including Committee Chowk, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazar, and Dingi Khoi.
The meeting also announced the permitted timings for handcarts in Ghala Mandi and City Saddar Road, while also pledging to crack down on underage rickshaw drivers.
Additionally, barbed wires will also be installed around parking areas to improve security, and cameras will be used to monitor traffic flow and check the performance of traffic officials.
The RPO also directed the Chief Traffic Officer to set up a complaint cell with a WhatsApp number to address citizen complaints immediately.
He said that with the cooperation of the business community, the city would be free of encroachments and traffic flow would smoothen.
