SHC Orders Review of Documents Related to Disputed Land Claimed by PPOCHS

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the bailiff to review documents and records related to a disputed 65-acre piece of land that the Pakistan Post Office Cooperative Housing Society (PPOCHS) claims was illegally encroached upon to build a village.

The PPOCHS lawyer argued before the two-member bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed, that Abdullah Ghazi Goth had been established on their land.

The Revenue Department’s attorney, on the other hand, countered that the housing society had encroached on land meant for the village, resulting in the illegal construction of large bungalows.

It was shared that the land was allocated under the Sindh government’s “Goth Abad Scheme” to house communities.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the occupants of the land in question lacked legal rights or property documents, and claimed that the Goth Abad Scheme could not be implemented in urban areas, citing a Supreme Court ruling.

Additionally, the assistant commissioner of the East district informed the court that the housing society had purchased the land next to a rural area.

However, the court has now appointed the bailiff of the Sindh High Court as the commissioner for inspection. The inspector has been ordered to inspect the property and the relevant documentation and submit a report at the next hearing, scheduled for March 21.
