PESHAWAR: Peshawar’s Heritage Trail project, aimed at restoring historical places and attracting tourists to the provincial capital, has fallen into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance.
The project was constructed four years ago by the former provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) between the historic Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) and Tehsil Gur Ghatri, at a cost exceeding Rs. 500 million.
The project included benches, beautifully designed streetlights, wooden streets, the decoration of old houses and shops, a food street, and gates.
However, after four years, piles of dirt have accumulated in some places, and everything is in a state of disrepair.
Local people expressed disappointment with the project’s condition, stating that it was a good plan by the government but failed to achieve its aim.
Moreover, the lack of attention to the project’s maintenance has led to a waste of public funds, and tourists are unlikely to be attracted to a heritage trail that has fallen into disrepair.
Besides, the authorities are urged to take immediate action to restore the heritage trail and ensure it is properly maintained to fulfill its original purpose.
