Should Footpaths, Green Patches be Resumed for Public Use? CDA Chairman Seeks Suggestions

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority Chairman, Noor Ul Amin Mengal, has sparked a debate on using open spaces in the city.

He tweeted but later deleted the post in which he raised doubts about whether the footpaths, parking spaces, and small areas of green that restaurants, cafes, and eateries use should be returned to their original purposes.

Currently, there is a policy in place for minimal rental of these spaces, but Mr. Mengal is seeking suggestions on whether they should be freed up for public use.

It is important to note that previously the authorities removed encroachments from such spaces in various parts of the twin cities.

The chairman’s tweets have received a great response from the public, with many expressing their opinions on several different matters.

This debate highlights the ongoing tension between the need for public space and the demands of a growing urban population.

As the city continues to develop, it will be crucial to strike a balance between the two to ensure sustainable growth and high quality of life for all residents.

Comments

  1. Why not.

CDA Officials are part and parcel of these Enchantments. One cannot see these types of mushroom growth at DHA and Bahria.

    1. For scenic values these should be cleared. Pollution control and environmental ethics demand the clearance.

  2. As long as they maitain high/internationally recognised standards; and fully adhere to CDA and MCI bye laws and add value to tye city outlook, these can stay. Otherwise, these should be removed.

  3. Just give us usa and Denmark like standard, please clean and make footpath free again

  4. No where in the world foot paths and green ares are rented. These encroachments under CDA patronage must be cleared as soon as possible.
