CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah has approved a proposal to build two additional seawater desalination facilities in Karachi.
The proposed plan calls for the construction of desalination plants with a total capacity of more than 5MGD. In addition, efforts are being made to reactivate the abandoned seawater desalination facilities at KANUPP.
Ibrahim Hyderi, Masjid DHA-VII, and Seaview at Village Restaurant have been proposed as places for the development of desalination plants.
Ibrahim Hyderi at Korangi Creek is 1.5 kilometers from Dhari Island, which has been approved by the CM.
A backup pumping station is located near the Coast Guard Chowrangi where the inlet will supply water to the Ghazi Pumping Station.
In the event of an emergency, this will act as a backup plan. A 5MGD desalination facility in Lyari is also being considered.
Additionally, the local administration was instructed to get in touch with a private company that had previously built a 1.2 MGD desalination unit to supply water to KANUPP.
However, because KANUPP built its factory somewhere else, that facility had been abandoned.
