ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works convened a meeting on Monday at the Parliament House to address a range of important matters.
Chaired by Senator Haji Hidayatullah, the meeting saw the participation of several senators and senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Works, along with its attached departments and agencies.
The committee focused on various agenda items, including the status of affidavits received from officers of the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding their residential ownership in Islamabad.
It also discussed the legal opinion obtained from the Ministry of Law and Justice concerning the cancellation of existing lease agreements for commercial business properties in Karachi.
Moreover, the committee reviewed a report on the 8,200 Kanal of land belonging to the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) and sought detailed information on payments made and the hiring process of M/S Urban Unit Lahore as Surveyor.
Regarding the status of affidavits from PWD officers, it was revealed that 49 out of 55 individuals had submitted the required documents, while the remaining officers had retired or voluntarily vacated their accommodations.
The Estate Office informed the committee about the availability of nine petrol pump sites and 216 Federal shops in Karachi, by the Shop Rental Auction Policy 2017.
It is worth noting that an Auction Committee has already been formed by the Ministry of Housing and Works to handle the process.
Regarding the SCBAP land and property-related details, the committee deferred the discussion as the briefing lacked essential information.
Moreover, the ministry was instructed to come prepared with comprehensive details for the next meeting.
