KARACHI: K-Electric has strongly condemned the damage caused to its property during a protest that took place at its head office in Gizri.
The protest was staged by a group of individuals from various areas of the city who were expressing their frustration over power outages in their localities.
The spokesperson for K-Electric expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies for their assistance in peacefully dispersing the protesters.
In a statement, the spokesperson pointed out that many of the protesters hailed from areas where theft and non-payment ratios are alarmingly high, reaching up to 80 percent in some cases.
These areas include Hazara Colony, Mominabad, Dorakh Lane, Saifi Lane, and Bakra Chowk.
The spokesperson emphasized that providing an uninterrupted power supply or reducing load shedding in these areas is unfortunately not feasible.
Furthermore, the details of these areas have been shared multiple times with elected representatives and union council members, who have the authority to guide the residents and ensure that their electricity bills are paid on time.
Despite these efforts, concrete action has not been taken to address the issue. K-Electric has organized recovery camps in these locations and has been in regular contact with area representatives to encourage bill payment.
However, the lack of response from the residents has hindered progress in resolving the matter.
The spokesperson also highlighted that in Lyari, where timely bill payment and theft elimination have been achieved, 38% of the area now enjoys exemption from load shedding.

Good decision by k electric to reduce load shedding in lyari area residents paying bills regularly.
K electric should offer soft instalment bills without late payment charge to all poor people areas.
