KARACHI: Syed Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, operated an excavator to lay the foundation for the construction of energy infrastructure to improve Karachi’s connectivity to the national grid.
As per the details, the project would improve K-Electric’s connectivity with the national grid as the CM, being chief guest of the ceremony, performed the groundbreaking of the 500KV interchange grid of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) to power more businesses and residences in the provincial capital
The CM expressed gratitude that the new infrastructure would add 500 to 1,000 MWs of additional power to the national grid, which would help 3,000 residents of Karachi as the project would complete by April 2024.
He stated that K-Electric’s parent company, the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, had been established in 1913 when even many American cities lacked adequate energy distribution networks.
Murad added that his administration had been giving K-Electric all the support it needed to carry out its fundamental duties of supplying Karachi’s residents with uninterrupted electricity at the most reasonable prices.
The 100 MW Nooriabad power plant, constructed by the Sindh government through a public-private partnership, is one of the best instances of this collaboration, according to the CM, since it has proven to be one of the most affordable sources of electricity accessible to K-Electric.
The CM said that Sindh, with its significant coal deposits in Thar, several active natural gas fields, and an abundance of alternative energy sources like solar and wind power, could make Pakistan energy self-sufficient.
