SHC Puts Defence Secretary and DHA on Notice in Street Bifurcation Case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has taken action on a petition challenging the bifurcation of streets in DHA Phase-I and issued notices to the defense secretary, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), and Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC).

Dr. Mazhar Naeem, the petitioner, raised concerns about the scheme implemented by the respondents in DHA Phase-I, claiming that it has adversely affected the smooth flow of traffic and accessibility to thoroughfares.

Additionally, he pointed out that the concrete structures covering drainage pathways hinder the effective discharge of water in the area.

The petitioner argued that the actions of the defense ministry, DHA, and CBC are against the rights and interests of the general public and violate an SHC order from a previous petition filed in 2014.

He emphasized that town planning, including the planning and alteration of streets and public pathways, requires proper rules and regulations.

Seeking immediate resolution, Dr. Mazhar Naeem asked the SHC to declare the impugned scheme illegal and demand the removal of all concrete structures dividing the streets.
