The government of Punjab has released PKR 5 billion for the construction of the 129-kilometer-long Lillah-Jhelum dual carriageway project.
According to the details, former Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the dual carriageway project in June 2021 at a total cost of PKR 16 billion.
It was stated that the construction would begin in November 2021. The project is scheduled to be completed in March 2023.
However, construction progress has been slow since the change in government. Locals applauded the release of funds for the project, and it was stated that the timely completion of the carriageway will benefit the residents of the surrounding areas.
It should be noted that the project will connect the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) to the Motorway, allowing for a quick connection to Kashmir.
In addition, the aforementioned project will bring economic development and job opportunities to the region.
