Sindh High Court Orders Anti-Encroachment Operation in PECHS

KARACHI: On Tuesday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered an effective operation against the unauthorized encroachment of Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS) land.

Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi of the high court bench has commanded the Deputy Commissioner of Karachi-East to remove all encroachments by December 14 while the Police and Rangers were also told by the court to lend a hand with the anti-encroachment operation.

As per the details, the Judge asked the SSP East and the deputy commissioner who appeared in court about their plans against land grabbers, and actions taken so far to remove the encroachments. “It is a 50-year-old allotment, and the land is still encroaching,” Justice Rizvi noted.

Justice Rizvi instructed the authorities to at the very least devise a plan and to make use of the police and ranger forces as needed. The police revealed that an operation had been carried out but encountered resistance.

Instead of regular police officers, the judge advised using the Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos of the Sindh police.

Besides, the bench also asked about the number of personnel that would be needed, and instructed to use female personnel in a hostage situation, adding that the authorities should be proactive rather than reacting only after an encroachment occurs.
