KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has asked the Sindh Police for help in retrieving 17,000 plots from land squatters in Surjani Town’s sectors 10, 13, and 14.
As per the details, the Additional Director (Land) of KDA has written to the relevant authorities, including the DIG West Zone, SSP West, and Director General (DG) KDA, requesting assistance in reclaiming government-allocated land from the land mafia and encroachers.
According to the letter, the offenders are constantly building illegal constructions, and KDA is powerless to stop them since they are armed with modern weapons and threaten the KDA staff when they are confronted.
The letter also refers to an incident in which KDA staff members were severely attacked for attempting to stop them from trespassing on the property.
Furthermore, the names of the alleged land squatters and their facilitators have also been mentioned in the letter.
The DIG Fida Hussain Mastoi assured that the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) would work with the KDA on this issue.
Besides, Jamil Baloch, the KDA’s director for anti-encroachment and land management, also disclosed that about 4 land grabbers are responsible for infringing on public property as they benefit from the lack of coordination amongst government agencies.
