ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has planned to develop a smart traffic management system in order to detect and minimize traffic density.
A meeting in this regard was presided over by Chairman CDA, Captain Muhammad Usman Younis.
The meeting was attended by the member Engineering, Member Planning, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner, SSP Traffic, and other Officers of the CDA.
The designers stated that the system would aid in managing the traffic flow reducing accidents and traffic bottlenecks.
A group of students from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) presented the concept of a Smart Traffic Management System during the meeting.
It was also shared that the system will be having wireless sensor networks and CCTV cameras will also be installed at each signal which will turn green and red automatically as per the traffic flow.
According to the details, the new project will be launched for the Islamabad Highway as a test project and later it will include Kashmir Highway, Margalla Road, and other routes within 6 months.
The Chief Commissioner Islamabad and IG Islamabad have also visited the control room of the cutting-edge ITS room established at the Islamabad Highway.
It is important to mention that the ITS system will aid in managing the traffic flow on the expressway reducing accidents and traffic bottlenecks.
Additionally, a mobile application named “Capital Road Information System” has also been introduced for the general public.
