Punjab University Gets Miyawaki Forest of 7,000 Saplings

LAHORE: On its campus, Punjab University (PU) has developed the Miyawaki project effectively with over more than 7,000 saplings planted across 2 acres of land.

Dr. Asghar Zaidi, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of PU, officially opened the green project while the university’s Registrar, Shahid Javed, Resident Officers (ROs), Colonel (r) Umar Khalid and Jalil Tariq, Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Sajid Rashid, and other officials were present during the event.

Numerous trees are being planted in the Miyawaki forest, according to Dr. Asghar Zaidi, who also highlighted that the initiative will act as an oxygen reservoir and serve as a haven for various bird species.

He said that as part of this endeavor, the institution would give students, instructors, and other employees access to an ecologically friendly environment.

It is to note here that the largest Miyawaki forest in the world was created in Islamabad by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with a private group earlier in October of this year.

Furthermore, the CDA Chairman, Captain (r), Muhammad Usman Younas, and the Managing Director (MD) of Mari Petroleum, Faheem Haider, inaugurated the forest by planting saplings in the H-12 Sector of Islamabad.

The forest in Islamabad covers an area of 17 acres and the first 20,000 large-sized saplings were already planted at the time of inauguration.
