LAHORE: Commissioner Lahore Aamir Jaan has linked the issuance of environment no objection certificates (NOCs) for new commercial and industrial buildings with installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
Aamir Jaan indicated at a meeting on Monday that the administration was considering making the following prerequisites mandatory for builders to get the environment NOC:
- Installation of solar systems
- Certified energy-efficient devices
- Water recycling plants
- Electric vehicle charging stations in the building’s parking area
The commissioner also stated that energy savings, water conservation, and smog management were critical for the city and that EV charging stations would aid in reaching a sustainable solution.
He cautioned that any building that did not meet the above mentioned requirements would not be granted an NOC.
He added that the energy crisis, water scarcity, and pollution threatened metropolitan cities, including Lahore.
It is worth noting that Lahore is one of the cities with the worst air pollution statistics. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has consistently remained above 300 points, which is considered dangerous for human health and well-being.
