Ministry of Housing to Start Operation Against Encroachments in Govt Residences

ISLAMABAD: In the federal capital Islamabad, there are 17,500 official apartments, of them, 5,000 are unlawfully inhabited and encroached into by employees.

According to a report from the Ministry of Housing, the encroachers have also added extra rooms, boundary walls, and courtyards to expand the houses.

The Ministry of Housing has decided to launch an operation against intrusions into housing units provided to federal government employees in all sectors of the capital.

Besides, the official residences of the estate office under the Federal Ministry of Housing, which are provided to federal officials, have reportedly been significantly encroached upon, according to sources inside the ministry.

Furthermore, sources said that the employees residing in these government buildings had carried out further construction in the courtyards and on the rooftops as well.

According to the sources, about 17,500 official houses are now owned by the State Office in Islamabad and the assessment revealed that roughly 5,000 houses had either fallen into adverse possession or been encroached upon.
