Estate Office All Set to Vacate Government Quarters in Capital

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works intends to evict retired employees and relatives of late employees from government residences in the federal capital.

Sources in the Estate Office stated that a plan was being devised in line with directives of Minister for Housing and Works Maulana Abdul Wasay, who made serious efforts to address accommodation issues of the government servants.

The ministry also requested assistance from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Estate Office for the purpose.

It further stated that the ministry was considering legal action against the encroachments and illegally constructed structures in federal capital government residences.

They added that strict action would be taken against employees and their families who lived in government-allotted houses and built additional rooms.

According to an estimate, the estate office currently manages over 17,000 government houses in Islamabad, and allottees have illegally built additional rooms in over 2,400 residences.

In response to a question, it was discovered that over 25,000 government employees were currently on the general waiting list, but they could not get accommodation as retired employees, their relatives, and even families of late government employees continued to live in government quarters.
