LAHORE: Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, officially inaugurated the new Punjab Assembly (PA) building on Monday.
According to the sources, the building’s construction lasted 15 years because of financial and political barriers.
The chief minister stated that the new structure was built with the requirements of the 21st century in mind as had a 200-person capacity in addition to housing 500 Members of the Assembly (MPAs).
He stated that the guest gallery could accommodate 800 people and that the secretariat building was home to the offices of the Chief Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, ministries, and Leader of the Opposition in the parliament (of the new building).
Besides, the facility also has 3 committee rooms, 1 conference room, a library, a cafe, and parking with a 400-vehicle capacity, he added.
The sources informed that it had been determined that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year would be presented in the new House, and it had been previously announced that the new Assembly Hall was the largest in Asia.
The Speaker was informed during a briefing that the new structure’s foundation stone was laid on June 27, 2006, while he was still Punjab’s chief minister.
