RAWALPINDI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has funded 2 significant water supply projects in Rawalpindi, which are in their final stages of design and planning.

As per the details, the projects include the Chahan Dam and a new water supply network from Rawal Lake’s treatment plant to Rawalpindi.

ADB has also started a study for the Dadocha Dam project, which is part of the bank’s loan funding of Rs. 28 billion for 3 projects to ensure the long-term supply of drinking water in the garrison city.

Once completed, the Chahan Dam project will cost Rs. 17 billion and increase the daily water supply from 6 to 12 million gallons.

Furthermore, the new pipeline from Rawal Lake’s treatment plant to WASA’s water supply diversion on 6th Road will increase the current daily water supply of 23 million gallons per day to 28 million gallons per day, ending the difficult situation WASA has faced in supplying water according to the city’s demand.

The Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Studies Project will supervise all the projects, and their completion will allow WASA to close 100 tube wells, saving electricity bills.

The sources also added that the study for the Dadocha Dam project would finalize its PC-1, ensuring future water requirements.
