Bilawal Asks Sindh Govt to Construct Weather-Resistant Houses

KARACHI: Foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari requested the Sindh government to build weather-resistant houses for the flood victims so that they could survive even if the province had further natural disasters like floods or intense rains.

He remarked that building weather-resistant houses were urgently needed in light of the impact of climate change while presiding over a meeting to examine the losses and damages caused by heavy rains and the steps taken by the provincial government.

“We require houses that can resist disasters like floods, hurricanes, downpours, and droughts,” he added.

The chief minister informed the FM that 1.7 million houses had suffered partial or total damage as a result of the floods and that homeless people urgently needed a place to stay.

“The provincial administration plans to start rehabilitation measures for the impacted households and as a result, we are completing a standard for the restoration of the affected residence,” he said.

Bilawal suggested building houses that were able to withstand future disasters and ordered the rebuilding of destroyed houses at the earliest.

The CM said that his administration had already secured Rs. 220 billion, of which Rs. 110 billion had been pledged by the World Bank and Rs. 110 billion by provincial and federal governments.
