CM Sindh Briefs NDU Delegation Over Karachi Uplift Schemes

KARACHI: The chief minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, stated that investments in Karachi had continued to be a top priority for carrying out development initiatives for infrastructure and services.

As per the details, the CM while addressing a delegation of the National Defense University (NDU), said that over the past five years, an amount of Rs. 137.3 billion had been spent on development projects, mostly for roads, water supply, sewage, solid waste management, stormwater drains, transportation, and mass transit.

Murad briefed that 150 kilometers of roads were built through 73 major projects, 14 flyovers, underpasses, and bridges on major roads, as well as four BRT schemes, 31 major schemes for water supply and sewerage systems, and 28 major schemes for health and education infrastructure.

 

The CM praised the provincial government’s achievement of coal-fired electricity generation in Thar, adding that Thar contributed approximately 1,000MW to the national grid.

Besides, the post-disaster need assessment (PDNA), was also discussed under the economic impact of floods-2022, to which the CM stated that substantial damage in agriculture, industry, and services sectors was anticipated to be equal to 4.8% of 2022 GDP.

According to Mr. Shah, the anticipated national development spending for 2023 must be increased by 1.6 times to account for the exceptional recovery and reconstruction.
