Caretaker LG Minister Takes Action Against City’s Concrete Jungle

KARACHI: The Caretaker Local Government Minister, Mubin Jumani, expressed his concerns about the unchecked proliferation of concrete structures in the city, referring to it as a “jungle of concrete.”

In a meeting with heads of various civic agencies and utilities, he directed the chief of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to take immediate and independent action against all aspects of the corrupt “systems” responsible for illegal constructions.

During the meeting, Minister Jumani emphasized that he was aware of the existence of a “system” within the development authorities, which often translates to a network of corruption and mismanagement.

As someone with a professional background in the construction industry and a resident of the city himself, Minister Jumani asserted his understanding of the situation and his awareness of those involved.

He urged the attending officers to move past the mistakes of the past and focus on serving the public within the confines of the law.

Addressing the officers, he reassured those working diligently that they would have his support.

However, he warned that any officer found engaged in wrongdoing would face appropriate action under his tenure.

The meeting was attended by local government officials, including the local government secretary, local government board secretary, and chiefs of various authorities responsible for urban development, water and sewage management, and waste disposal.

Moreover, he also directed the chief executive officer of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to promptly provide a list of illegal hydrants.
