CDA Decides to Refurb Footpaths of the City

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to build new walkways in addition to repairing all existing ones that have been damaged over time.

According to CDA, 383 km of new walkways would be built while 847 km of existing footpaths would be repaired and renovated.

The chairman of CDA, in this regard, presided over a meeting at the civic agency’s headquarters to discuss upgrading the city’s road system.

He gave the instructions to get the public footpaths repaired at the earliest while also ordering for new footpaths to be built in order to offer inhabitants the necessary amenities.

The meeting was briefed that the footpaths would have a total length of 5,630 km as planned, being located in various centers of the capital, including Marakiz, class-III shopping centers along 7th Avenue, Faisal Avenue, 9th Avenue, Constitution Avenue, Ataturk Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, as well as on major roads, service roads, and in different streets.

According to a statement issued by CDA, the overall length of current footpaths is 5,247 km out of the total intended. In this regard, 4,400 kms of footpaths are in good shape, while 847.13 kms still need rehabilitation and repair, adding that, 383.1 kms of additional footpaths would be built.

In addition, it was also stated that the chairman issued directives to color-code speed and traffic signs on curb stones, using the already applied 2 color scheme.

The CDA claims that the color-coding of the curb stones would make it easier to gauge the speed limit while the chairman gave the director traffic engineer instructions and requested that they prepare the full plan in accordance with international standards and resubmit it for approval.

He added that these actions would not only help citizens save money and time, but would also contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution.
