CDA Finalizes 2 Waste Disposal Sites in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Two locations for the dump site have been decided upon by the city managers and CDA and in the upcoming CDA board meeting, the proposals for both locations will be discussed.

According to sources, it was determined that the sanitation directorate would inform its consultant, Urban Unit Team, about the two locations.

The sources added that for the sites that will be built at Kuri and Dhoke Jando next to Nicholson’s Monument, the directorate will offer information on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and the clearance certificates.

Additionally, it was decided that the consultant would split the cost of the site’s geological and hydrological surveys and would also provide information on proposed drone surveys for use in creating feasibility studies.

Recently, a location was examined by a group led by Deputy Director General (DDG) Planning Zafar Iqbal, which also included DDG Sanitation Rafia Haider, Director Sanitation Malik Atta, Director Regional Planning Faraz Malik, and others.

The board will be briefed on 7 potential sites, with an emphasis on the mentioned 2.

It should be noted that the Islamabad High Court will also hear a lawsuit the following month, and the CDA is needed to provide its response about the efforts it has taken to establish an appropriate dump site in the capital.

Currently, the CDA dumps solid garbage at a location at Losar, Chak Beli Khan in Rawalpindi that is owned by the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company.

Before moving the temporary landfill site to H-16, the civic organization had a temporary trash dump site in the I-12 residential area.

Besides, the municipal organization was ordered by the court to move away from residential zones.

Additionally, the court ordered the CDA to make sure that with effect from April 10, 2022, no trash be placed on temporary sites in residential districts of Islamabad.

CDA then temporarily headed toward the Chak Beli region and the civic organization is now proposing to establish its landfill site.

Comments

  1. This should not be limited to dumping places of garbage only, but for recycling units and energy production units to address our challenges. In our private sector we have good examples like “Katchra Bank” of karachi – to upscale those models and implement as value addition with the help of private sector.

  2. Use Katchra Bank approach. It is gold if used wisely. Guide residents to use separate waste drum for different types of waste. Education is desperately needed to guide people for utilising their waste. Give incentives. Give shoppers.

  3. Kuri road is located next to many residential societies like Behria envlave, bani gala, park view and park envlave to name a few …removing garbage from one place and dumping to another residential site is not a good idea at all ..we need to report to PM portal and take stay

  4. Kuri Road near chak shehzad & link road of Bahria enclave & Park view & CDA park enclave societies. This site for dumping of waste is not feasible option. It must be replaced towards Taxila side or rawat.

  5. Useless idea to dumping the waste
    In near to residence area…
    No planning for recycle….
No City planning even u see due to heavy traffic educated people driving
Car in Grass areas….but no police and CDA
Don’t Care what is happening in Islamabad blue area….
Need some vision people to look into it
And strict action….and fine such people
What do ever… government driver or public…… driving car…on Green area.

  6. Why can’t we learn from other countries? In Singapore waste is used for electricity production and there is zero pollution.
In Indonesia, the waste is first put on conveyer belts and waste collector poor people are allowed to collect the products of their choice from the belts. Some are collecting plastics for recycling. Some are collecting empty cans, some are collecting iron things etc etc.
The remaining organic waste is going for dumps to make compost which is then sold.

  7. Dhoke Jandu is adjacent to the Best Sector of Islamabad B-17. It may also effect Wapda Town, C-18, FMC & Faisal Hills in the West.
    .
Need to be Reconsidered, as it will also pollute the underground water table.

  8. Whereas west has designated its waste dumps as potential mines, our sarkari baboos have no idea what this trash is worth. We are living in an age where countries are switching to circular economies to conserve on natural resources. I think Municipal Managers at CDA needs to be sent for some trainings on how to use the valuable commodity we call “TRASH”.

  9. Nicolson monument is behind Multi gardens B17 Islamabad
The sector is thickly populated and the residents of B17 have already lodged a strong protest against making garbage dumping station here, the environment and CDA authorities are well aware of this. The dumping station behind B 17 is not justified at all, hence CDA should go for some other site. We are at loss to understand as to why CDA failed to establish waste disposal units in each sector as is done by B17 management. We strongly protest and will protest if dumping site is establishment meaer Nicolson monument

  10. Could’t understand why CDA is again going to make dhoke Jando gurbage dumping site. Where as this sugession has been strongly condemend and opposed by residents of popleted Sector B-17, D-17, local pouplation of surronding area alongwith EPA of Pakistan at all levels and fourams. Ultamately CDA understood and made decission to make dumping site far away from poplulation somewhere rawat or elsewher farflung area.
I think guy’s sitting on management seats are preatymuch wise and literate. We expect them to handle the issue wisely. Learn from other countries, how the have tackled gurbage problem by converting its nagitivty to positive enegy (electricty).
Your wise decissions could make environment safe and healthy for your and our children. Kindly make dumping sites faraway from poplated areas.

  11. CDA must asham to make dumping site in loser in side the much papulation of loser check bali road. Malik attaq is very bad officer who make all fake environment report for loser. in suruding with loser there is thousands of population who will effected if cad make dumping site there. sham on you cda esp. malik atta.
