CDA Planning to Set Up Weekly Car Bazaar on Srinagar Highway

ISLAMABAD: The civic agency in Islamabad is considering the establishment of a weekly car bazaar on the Srinagar Highway to facilitate the sale and purchase of vehicles.

Currently, there is no official facility for car trading in Islamabad, but small-scale businesses are conducted in G-8 and G-9 Markaz on Sundays. However, a weekly bazaar already takes place on Murree Road in Rawalpindi on Fridays, and a major bazaar is held in Taxila on Sundays.

A senior officer of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) stated that the agency was planning to set up a weekly bazaar along the Srinagar Highway, just short of Tarnol.

The officer explained that the CDA has a considerable amount of land on both sides of the highway that could be utilized for the proposed bazaar. The bazaar will be held once a week, most likely on Sundays.

However, the officer stated that CDA was also considering the traffic issues before finalizing the day for the bazaar.

Before starting the bazaar, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will be consulted, and their recommendations on traffic management issues will be taken into account.

The facility will be temporary, and CDA and the district administration will assign an official from the Excise and Taxation Office to the bazaar to provide timely assistance to people regarding the authenticity of the vehicles being sold.

The CDA officials have stated that the idea to organize a weekly bazaar for car trading is a good initiative. However, they emphasized the need to have a proper traffic management plan as Srinagar Highway is the busiest artery in the city.

CDA is urged to consider all traffic-related issues before exploring other suitable sites for the bazaar.

Recently, CDA waived the land use conversion fee for car showrooms and other specific businesses to move them out of the markets and set up their businesses on nine major roads in Islamabad.

The CDA Chairman has been receiving input from various officers on the matter, and an official announcement is expected to be made in the coming days.

  1. Dear Sir
Its very easy to start car bazar near Sirinagar highway but too difficult to manage traffic as this will attract traders from adjacent cities who are less aware of traffic issues. We have clear example of Taxila and pindi car bazars which are a big hurdle for traffic . CDA can not remove encroachments created by car dealers in G 8 , why is it establushing another problem. Such Bazar shall be conducted in a big ground away from main road. I wish traffic Police will not agree on it.

  2. Only recommended place for such kind of Bazar is Parade ground where all this can be managed easily otherwise it ll b huge mess.

  3. Make a proper land.their should be facilities of cafeteria mosque public toilets.15 verification.
Even CDA should make a facility on entrance and charge all the vehicles for sales.
    Within 2 minutes check engine
    Tyre of vehicle
Body etc generate paper from computer so the buyer feel confident about purchase paste stamped paper on vehicle windscreen.
Give rented showrooms to olx pakwheel and others so before buying people get car price assesment.
From this activity cda will generate money and some of private sector too.
It will benifit 85%of buyers to be confident.also we can add atms and small bank complex for safe handling of cash.
Seperate bays for different categories of cars.

    1. In Japan, buying and selling car is an easy task for both a buyer and seller because there the authorized government institution takes the responsibility of car condition and grades it in different levels. According to that grade, the car price is decided. If it is accidental, it is graded at low price as per condition. There is no fear or insecurity by either party. I think if CDA is really interested in car trading business, then it should upgrade itself as per international markets. It should not only consider the traffic issues, but also take the responsibility for public safety on a fraud-free business.

  4. It will be a good bussines activity for interested people/agents, car dealer those have ocuppied all central places in Islamabad market as well as geneon buyer and sellers, if some facilities provided by the administration like, legal documentation , stamp paper s, ETO, etc I hope this will bring good change/convenience for this neglected bussines since long for citizen of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
    Thanks n regards
